Greater DC Cares: 9/11 National Day of Service

Greater DC Cares participated in many different kinds of service of 9/11/11 to “transform a day of sorrow into a day of service!” My parents and I went to HorseNet Rescue with other volunteers through DC Cares and Hands On Network. For hours, we cleared areas for new fences to be put in and generally maintained the land. It was a very hard day of work! We were sore and covered in scratches afterwards, but this was a unique opportunity to volunteer! How did you serve on 9/11?

Fountain Coins Donated to Believe In Tomorrow

All of the fountain coins from the Francis Scott Key Mall for the month of September 2011 will be donated to the charity of my choice, the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation. Believe In Tomorrow provides housing for critically ill children and their families. 93% of every dollar donated to Believe In Tomorrow directly supports their programs. As a part of Kids Are Heroes, this along with many other opportunities, has been offered to me! The coins ended up being $241.66 and I can assure you of one thing: they’re heavy! I’m so excited to be able to make this donation to my favorite organization, the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation!
